The J-List: August 11th

Howdy, howdy, howdy newsletter fam! August has been a bunch of fun, and I hope everyone here has had a great month as well

Topic I’m Pondering

Over the past few weeks, I’ve developed a strategy of creating YouTube vlogs. These vlogs will speak about my coding projects, starting with my journey to create a website that can showcase search algorithms. I have a website built, with preliminary implementations of Dijsktra’s algorithm, but I’m working on how to turn it into a story. If this is something you would watch, please let me know, as I would love friendly feedback.

Solo I’m Learning

There’s a running Instagram Reel/Tiktok of an angry man punching a car window. I had the idea to loop that punching beat as the intro to Black Betty by Ram Jam. After going and learning the introduction, I realized how incredible the guitar part is. If you don’t know the song, I highly recommend listening to it!

Book I’m Reading

Thinking Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman.

Daniel Kahneman is a Nobel prize-winning Economist. That’s more than enough credibility to get me to read his book.

Kahenman’s best seller describes how we have two deliberate systems within our brain. System 1 is fast, intuitive, and emotional; System 2 is slower, more deliberative, and more logical. The impact of overconfidence on corporate strategies, the difficulties of predicting what will make us happy in the future, the profound effect of cognitive biases on everything from playing the stock market to planning our next vacation―each of these can be understood only by knowing how the two systems shape our judgments and decisions.

I’m only one chapter in so far, but eager to keep diving in and exploring.

As always, thank you for reading! Until Next Week!
